SMILE^® Pro (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is a minimally invasive flapless laser vision correction procedure. Initially introduced as ReLEx SMILE, SNEC has since upgraded its equipment to VISUMAX^® 800 to provide a safe, faster and more comfortable procedure known as SMILE^® pro.

• You have short sightedness from -1.00 to -10.00 diopters and/or astigmatism of up to -5.00 diopters

• Susceptible to dry eyes or have contact lens intolerance 

• You have a stable prescription and relatively healthy eyes

FAQs on SMILE^® Pro

What is the treatment range for SMILE^® Pro?

SMILE^® pro is able to correct short-sightedness between -1.00 diopters (100 degrees) to -10.00 diopters (1,000 degrees), and astigmatism of up to -5.00 diopters (500 degrees). There are certain cornea thickness requirements for the refractive error being treated. Your ophthalmologist will advise you accordingly.

What are the benefits of SMILE^® Pro treatment over other laser vision correction procedures?

The smaller opening in SMILE^® pro allows better reservation of corneal nerves resulting in lower risk of dry eyes. In this flapless procedure, risk of flap-related complications is much lower. Therefore, SMILE^® pro is a suitable option for those who are involved in contact sports.

Are there any side effects for SMILE^® Pro treatment?

SMILE^® pro is a generally safe and highly precise procedure with no major side effects. Minor side effects similar to other laser vision correction procedures are to be expected. Please consult an ophthalmologist for a more in-depth understanding of your eligibility.

What kind of follow-up treatment is necessary?

After surgery, you will receive medicated eye drops and artificial tears together with a post-operative care instruction leaflet. The eye drops are generally prescribed for two weeks, and artificial tears for about one month. The first follow-up check is usually carried out the day after surgery. Further checks should follow at intervals of several weeks until you have regained stable vision. Your ophthalmologist will advise you accordingly.

How long will it take for my eyesight to be restored after for SMILE^® Pro treatment?

Most patients will experience an improvement in their vision a day after the surgery but attaining full visual potential may take some time. SMILE^® pro patients may notice their vision improving over time, with full restoration of their eyesight within one to six months* after the surgery.

Are the results achieved from SMILE^® Pro surgery permanent?

Yes, for most patients, the correction achieved from SMILE^® pro surgery is permanent.
