TransPRK is a type of Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) procedure available in our centre. The information provided in the Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) - LASEK section is applicable to TransPRK as well. The main difference is that TransPRK is a single step procedure in which the epithelium is first removed by phototherapeutic keratectomy laser (instead of diluted alcohol in LASEK) followed immediately by photorefractive keratectomy using a single excimer laser machine. A bandage contact lens is applied at the end of the procedure and it may remain in place for up to a week depending on how quickly healing occurs.
What are the advantages?
TransPRK may provide faster epithelial healing, less discomfort and therefore may translate to faster visual recovery compared to conventional PRK treatment.
How long must I apply eye drops following TransPRK surgery to my eyes?
You will be prescribed a variety of eye drops following the surgery. These eye drops consist of antibiotic eye drops to prevent infection, steroid eye drops to decrease inflammation and artificial tears eye drops to prevent dry eyes. After the surgery, you are required to apply the steroid eye drops for at least one month.
At the SNEC Laser Vision Centre, we are committed to providing quality and accessible ophthalmic eye care. Our rates are deliberated with the patient in mind.
