Profile

Clinical Associate Professor Husain is the current Director of Regional and Community Eye Care for SingHealth, as well as being a Senior Consultant at Singapore National Eye Centre (Glaucoma Department) and Changi General Hospital. He was the previous Head of the eye service at CGH.  He qualified from University College London Medical School and completed basic surgical training in the south of England. From 2002 to 2004 he was employed by the Institute of Ophthalmology (London) as a Clinical Research Fellow at Singapore National Eye Centre where he ran the Singapore 5-Fluorouracil Trabeculectomy Study. This large study examined the natural history of glaucoma surgery and in particular examined the effects of an anti-scarring agent on surgical outcomes. He was also involved in other research projects in patients with primary angle closure glaucoma, namely the Angle Closure Natural History Study and the ACLIPS study. Whilst in Singapore, he also took part in several epidemiological surveys in Indonesia to describe the prevalence and causes of low vision and cataract in that group of people. He returned to England to complete his higher surgical training and went on the gain specialist fellowship training in glaucoma at St Thomas’ and Kings College Hospitals, London.

Clinical Associate Professor Husain has published numerous articles and given many presentations, mainly on the subject of glaucoma and recently has focused on the interaction between glaucoma surgery and cataract surgery.
