Profile

Dr Preeti Gupta is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in the Population Health Research (PHR) Unit at the Singapore Eye Research Institute and holds an Assistant Professor appointment with the SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme. Her research interests include the epidemiology of age-related sensory deterioration, particularly public health impact of age-related eye diseases, visual impairment and associated changes in the ageing visual function system. Her current research focuses on understanding how impairment in the components of the visual function system impacts functional health in elderly, for which she was recently awarded the Academic Medicine, SingHealth Transition Award as Principal Investigator.

Dr Gupta is a co-investigator of a large epidemiological and population-based study “The PopulatION HEalth and SEnsory Decline PRofile of Elderly Singaporeans (PIONEER)”, investigating the clinical, biological, anthropomorphic, and psychosocial phenotypes in a contemporary population of elderly Singaporeans aged 60-100 years to better understand the burden and complex mechanisms underlying ageing in Singapore and Asia.

At a relatively early career of research, Dr Gupta has already published ~65 papers in top international journals. Her international standing is further supported by numerous presentations at leading international and regional ophthalmic research meetings. She was recently awarded the Association for Vision and Research in Ophthalmology (ARVO) International travel grant. In her current role, she supervises a large clinical team comprising research associates, optometrists, questionnaire administrators, recruitment officers, and also mentor medical and PhD students in population health research.
