Profile

Dr Olivia Huang Shimin is a Consultant in the Singapore National Eye Centre. Her clinical practice includes glaucoma, general cataract and comprehensive ophthalmology. She graduated with Honours from the University of New South Wales, with degrees in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours), and Bachelor of Science (Medicine) (Honours) in 2010. She trained under the ACGME-I (American Council of Graduate Medical Education – International) accredited SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program, and obtained her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2016 and Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2018, where she was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Candidate in Cataract and Refractive Ophthalmology in the Specialists’ Exit Examination. She also became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom) in the same year.

Dr Olivia Huang is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme, and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. She regularly trains fellows, residents, medical students, and allied health professionals. She has also received multiple academic, teaching and service awards, including the SingHealth RiSE Award for Outstanding Faculty in 2022, the SingHealth Inspiring Resident Educator Award in 2018, and the SingHealth Outstanding Resident in Ophthalmology award thrice in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

She served as Clinical Director of Pharmacy in 2022, Chief Resident in 2018 and Lead Resident in 2016. She is also active in serving the community, and regularly volunteers at community eye screening projects, and has been an invited speaker for educational talks in promoting public awareness of glaucoma and cataracts. She is also actively involved in research, particularly in glaucoma, her field of interest. She has published many scientific papers in respected peer-reviewed medical journals, and has presented her research work at international and local scientific conferences.
