Profile

Dr Jessica Choo is an Associate Consultant with the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). She graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2017 and was placed on the Dean's list multiple times. Dr Choo also won the MOH National Outstanding PGY1 Award for being one of the top 10 House Officers in Singapore in 2018. Subsequently, she joined the Singhealth Ophthalmology Residency programme in 2019 and completed specialist qualifications from NUS and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Choo’s clinical practice focuses on cataract surgery and holistic eye care such as diabetic eye screening, dry eye treatment and review for floaters. She is certified in both conventional cataract surgery and femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery. She also has interest in various intraocular lens implants (monofocal, toric, extended depth of focus (EDOF) and multifocal implants). For her expertise and experience in cataract surgery, Dr Choo has been appointed as an instructor in various microsurgery and cataract surgery courses. She also won the Silver Singapore Health Quality Service Award in recognition of her excellent care towards patients.

On the research and innovation front, Dr Choo was previously awarded the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Innovation Seed Grant, for the production of an ophthalmic anaesthetic block simulator. Her research work has also been published in medical journals and she has won awards at local and international conferences. She currently holds an appointment as an Adjunct Research Fellow with SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (EYE ACP).

Beyond her clinical practice and research interests, Dr Choo is also an Associate in Education with Singhealth, where she is actively involved in teaching ophthalmology residents, medical students, optometrists, family medicine residents and emergency medicine residents. She volunteers her time regularly at community eye screenings, and has also been invited to speak at outreach activities such as talks to nurses, GPs and the general public.
