Profile

Clinical Associate Professor Boey Pui Yi is a Senior Consultant in the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Her clinical practice includes cataract surgery, general and comprehensive ophthalmology, as well as a special interest in the field of Glaucoma. Clin A/Prof Boey practises in both SNEC main campus and satellite clinics in the community, where her work is centred on provision of quality eye care for patients with cataracts, glaucoma and general eye conditions. She has received multiple Singapore Health Quality Service Awards from 2017 to 2022, which is a nationwide award to honour healthcare professionals who have delivered quality care and service excellence to patients.

Clin A/Prof Boey is currently Director of Outpatient Services in SNEC, with key administrative roles in overseeing plans and operations related to outpatient eye care services in SNEC. She was previously head of satellite clinics from 2016 to 2022, first in Balestier Branch from 2016, followed by Alexandra Branch in 2017, and continued as Head of SNEC @ Bedok from 2018 to 2022, where she was in charge of the overall operations in these clinics. 

Clin A/Prof Boey completed her medical training with the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2004, where she was awarded the Dean’s list award for academic excellence in 2003. She qualified as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007, and was awarded the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) by NUS in 2008. In 2011, Clin A/Prof Boey obtained her specialist degrees as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, as well as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS), where she was awarded the Medal for Best Candidate in Oculoplastics and Adnexal Diseases. She then went on to sub-specialty fellowship training in Glaucoma at SNEC, and was also awarded the HMDP fellowship, which enabled her to pursue further training overseas. She completed an enriching post-doctoral clinical and research fellowship with the Devers Eye Institute, Legacy Health Systems, in Portland, Oregon, USA. During her overseas fellowship, she worked in-depth with internationally renowned glaucoma specialists on emerging techniques in optic nerve head imaging for the early detection of glaucoma and prevention of blindness.

Clin A/Prof Boey holds various academic appointments, including that of Clinical Associate Professor of SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (EYE ACP), and Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of NUS. She is actively involved in postgraduate and undergraduate education of ophthalmology trainees and medical students, and has received “Best Teacher” nominations from students that she has trained. Clin A/Prof Boey is also involved in SNEC mentorship programmes, where she provides a mentoring role to staff and junior colleagues at work.

Clin A/Prof Boey actively participates in presentations at numerous international and local conferences, and has published scientific papers in respected peer-reviewed medical journals. She has also been involved in numerous educational talks for the public as well as symposia for fellow doctors to raise awareness of Glaucoma.
