Profile

Beau Fenner, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Department of Medical Retina at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He completed undergraduate and PhD studies in Molecular Biology in Western Australia prior to undertaking postdoctoral research at the National University of Singapore and the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. He completed his MD studies at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Ophthalmology residency at the Singapore National Eye Centre, after which he undertook clinical fellowship training in Medical Retina at the Singapore National Eye Centre and additional subspecialty training in Inherited Retinal Diseases at the University of Iowa. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively engaged in clinical and translational research of Inherited Retinal Diseases, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Retinal Imaging.

Dr Fenner is the Principal Investigator of the Southeast Asian Database for Inherited Retinal Diseases, Singapore’s largest prospective study of Inherited Retinal Disease patients. He is also the Principal Investigator for numerous ongoing studies relating to Inherited Retinal Disease diagnosis and therapeutics, as well as projects relating to AMD in Asian patients.

Dr Fenner has received a number of prestigious awards, including the Innovation Research Australia Award, Singapore Millennium Foundation Award, Duke-NUS Dean’s Scholarship Award, Richard Fan Outstanding Ophthalmology Resident Award, American Academy of Ophthalmology International Education Award, and the Mina Chung Inherited Retinal Disease Fellowship Award.
