Profile

Clinical Associate Professor Anna Tan graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2004 after completing her basic medical degree, and obtained first-class honours with an additional Advanced Medical Science degree conjoint with Imperial College, London. She returned to Singapore to complete her ophthalmology subspecialty training (Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Singapore) in 2013 and obtained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in December the same year. She  completed multiple medical retina fellowships at the Singapore National Eye Centre, the Ophthalmology Department at the University of Bonn under Prof Frank Holz and the Vitreous Retina Macula New York (VRMNY) under Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi and Dr. K Bailey Freund.

Clinical Associate Professor Anna Tan is an avid researcher and has authored a total of 53 peer reviewed articles, 4 editorials and 4 book chapters. She has represented SNEC at many local and international conferences with various poster and oral presentations. She has been awarded multiple grants including the Khoo Clinical Scholarship Award aimed at developing research among clinicians and recently the Academic Clinical Program Grant for Clinician Scientists. Her fellowship experience in both Germany and the USA, has allowed her to cultivate interests in multi-modal ocular imaging systems and their potential for use and application in clinical practice. Since returning from her fellowship in 2016, she has been an invited speaker to multiple international and regional conferences. In addition, she has become a key opinion leader for Zeiss and have  also been invited by various other imaging companies for speaking engagements. She has received multiple grants to further her research interests including the National Medical Council Research Scholarship to pursue her PhD in Clinical Sciences. She has also won awards such as Catalyst award in the 2020 US National Academy of Medicines Healthy Longevity Global Competition, the SingHealth “Publish” Award and also gained a spot in the Interstellar initiative. Her subspecialty research interests include age-related macular degeneration, ocular imaging, low vision, visual rehabilitation, ageing and digital technology.
